Washington DC: US President Donald Trump has escalated tensions with Iran by announcing that the United States will launch further strikes against the country, warning that Iran will be hit “very hard tonight.”

The remarks come amid continuing hostilities between Washington and Tehran and growing concerns over stability in the Gulf region.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump claimed that much of Iran's military capability had already been destroyed and said additional attacks were planned. He also stated that the United States intends to take control of Kharg Island and other key Iranian oil infrastructure sites in the future. Kharg Island is regarded as one of Iran’s most important oil export hubs.

He shared in Truth Social : ‘The United States will be hitting Iran (Whose Navy, Air Force, Radar, Anti Aircraft, and all other forms of Defense, together with most its offensive capability, are GONE!), VERY HARD TONIGHT. At some point in the not too distant future, we will be taking Kharg Island, and other oil infrastructure points, and assume total control of their Oil and Gas Markets, much like we have with Venezuela, which is working out brilliantly for both Venezuela and the United States of America.’

Trump compared the proposed approach to US actions in Venezuela, arguing that American control of energy infrastructure would benefit both countries. The comments represent one of the strongest statements yet from the White House during the current confrontation with Iran.

The latest threat follows two days of military exchanges between the United States and Iran. Trump has repeatedly argued that Tehran delayed negotiations for too long and warned that it would face consequences if it failed to agree to a deal. Reports indicate that discussions have focused on ending the conflict permanently, reopening the Strait of Hormuz and addressing concerns surrounding Iran’s nuclear programme.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world's most strategically important waterways, carrying a significant share of global oil shipments. Any disruption in the region has the potential to affect international energy markets and global trade.

Diplomatic efforts continue alongside the military escalation, but uncertainty remains over whether negotiations can prevent a broader conflict. Governments across the world are closely monitoring developments due to their potential impact on regional security and oil supplies.
