Over 400 homes evacuated in Northern Ireland due to World War II bomb threat

London: Authorities in Northern Ireland have ordered the evacuation of over 400 residences following the discovery of what is believed to be a World War II-era bomb. The operation to secure and remove the device could extend beyond five days, police officials announced on Sunday.
The explosive device was found on Friday in Newtownards, located approximately 9 miles (15 kilometers) east of Belfast.
“I appreciate the disruption that this has caused, however keeping people safe is paramount and we will not take any risks," North Down and Ards District Commander Superintendent Johnston McDowell said. “I want to thank those who may be affected for their patience at this time.”
In response, law enforcement has established roadblocks and advised motorists to steer clear of the vicinity.
To assist displaced residents, an emergency support center has been established.
