Michelle Obama recently addressed the swirling rumours about her marriage to Barack Obama, which have captured the public’s attention following her absence from a few recent public events.

In a candid interview, Michelle set the record straight, offering insights into her long-lasting relationship with the former president and the challenges that come with marriage. Her honesty not only clears up the misconceptions but also provides a refreshing perspective on maintaining a healthy relationship in the public eye.

Michelle, however, recently addressed these rumours on entrepreneur Steven Bartlett's podcast, laughing off the idea. "If I were having problems with my husband, everybody would know about it," she said with a smile.

"Let me tell you, he would know it... And everybody would know it."

No hiding relationship struggles

Michelle, who was joined by her brother Craig Robinson during the podcast, added humorously, "I would be problem-solving in public, like, ‘Let me tell you what he did’." Craig Robinson also joined in the banter, joking that if the couple were facing any real problems, he would be doing a podcast with Barack himself.

Marriage is hard, but worth it

But amidst the jokes, Michelle also shared a candid reflection on her marriage, admitting that it hasn’t always been easy. “Marriage is hard for me and Barack,” she said. However, Michelle was quick to emphasise that she wouldn’t trade her relationship with Barack for anything in the world, calling him "my person," as young people say.

So, what’s the secret to their enduring partnership?

Michelle says that the key to their successful marriage is their mutual commitment to it. "The beauty of my husband and our partnership is that neither one of us was ever really, ever going to quit at it, because that's not who we are," she explained. "And I know that about him. He knows that about me."

Michelle went on to share valuable advice for young couples. She believes that many give up too soon on relationships, particularly because of unrealistic expectations. "I talk about this because I think people quit on marriage too soon," she explained. "There’s friction built into the relationship. And if you’re not talking about it, getting help, going to therapy, or figuring out how to keep growing together—it’s easy to walk away."

Behind the #CoupleGoals

Although Michelle acknowledges the perception that she and Barack are the ultimate #couplegoals, she is quick to point out that their relationship is far from perfect. "But I’m like, it’s hard. Really hard," she added.
