IndiGo is steadily elevating its service game by expanding its IndiGoStretch premium seating option, its version of a business class product, across more domestic and select international routes. In the latest move, the airline has confirmed the launch of IndiGoStretch on the high-traffic Bengaluru–Mumbai route, effective May 30, 2025.

The premium offering that marked IndiGo’s foray into hybrid full-service territory was first rolled out on trunk routes such as Delhi–Mumbai, Delhi–Bengaluru, Delhi–Chennai, and Delhi–Hyderabad, as well as international sectors like Delhi–Bangkok.

This strategic rollout is a clear signal of IndiGo’s intent to target a new class of frequent flyers and business travellers who want more comfort without switching to full-service carriers.

What is IndiGoStretch?

Unlike traditional no-frills seating, IndiGoStretch offers:

  • Extra legroom with front-row and exit-row seats
  • Priority check-in and boarding
  • Dedicated cabin space with a 2x2 seating layout (on selected aircraft)
  • Enhanced in-flight service and meal options

While the airline has refrained from fully rebranding itself as a full-service player, the move brings it closer to hybrid models seen globally, where low-cost carriers offer optional premium upgrades to cater to corporate and high-yield travellers.

The Bengaluru–Mumbai route is one of the busiest in India, serving a mix of business and high-frequency passengers. By introducing IndiGoStretch on this route, IndiGo is eyeing a significant chunk of the premium travel pie currently held by legacy carriers like Air India and Vistara.

Aviation analysts view this as a smart tactic to retain brand-loyal customers who may otherwise migrate to full-service carriers for enhanced comfort on busy business corridors.

After success on domestic routes, IndiGo is also testing IndiGoStretch on international routes such as Delhi–Bangkok, suggesting that the airline sees long-term potential in enhancing the travel experience beyond Indian skies.

With a growing network in Asia and the Middle East, and its upcoming widebody expansion in partnership with Turkish Airlines, IndiGo’s premium experiment may evolve further.

Apart from this, the addition of premium seating is seen as a step toward broadening its customer appeal without compromising on operational efficiency. Travellers on the Bengaluru–Mumbai stretch can begin booking IndiGoStretch seats for travel from May 30 onwards, with bookings already live on IndiGo’s website and app.

With India’s aviation market maturing and corporate travel steadily rebounding, IndiGo’s expansion of its business-lite offering may reshape competitive dynamics on metro routes. It also signals the airline’s broader ambition to evolve from a low-cost giant to a multi-segment leader in Indian aviation.
