IndiGo is handing over iPad 9 to its pilots; Here's why

Sustainability is the latest trend across every section of the industry and aviation claims to be at the forefront in clean and green aviation initiative. Be it airlines, airports, MROs and even manufacturers everyone is doing their bit to make the environment a better place for our future generations.
IndiGo, in its latest endeavour, aims to enhance its sustainability quotient by introducing paperless cockpit, reducing pilot’s dependency on cumbersome paper manuals, resulting in a lighter, more efficient cockpit environment.
How exactly is IndiGo doing this?
IndiGo is giving iPad 9 to all its ATR pilots as a part of its NextGen EFB (Electronic Flight Bag) program. IndiGo claims that this will not just enhance the operational efficiency but also help to digitise the cockpit clearing the paper manuals clutter.
Some of the salient features of iPad 9 are:
* Features a 10.2-inch Retina display and the A13 Bionic chip
* Offers the performance and functionality required for demanding aviation applications
* Has pre-loaded documents, charts, and onboard performance monitoring tools
The above features ensure that the pilots have the necessary resources readily available at their fingertips. As a result, pilots will have the access to all critical information regarding the flights, charts, data, performance tools in a proper streamlined ready-to-read format, thus eliminating pilot’s dependency on paper manuals.
The reduced paper manuals in the cockpit, directly corelates with IndiGo's sustainability values leading to lighter aircraft, fuel saving in turn resulting in low carbon emissions.
Thus, now the pilot is equipped with the iPad 9 leaving them with more time, greater operational flexibility and more control over pre-flight preparations, training and more learning options.
The iPad 9th generation is extremely user-friendly leading to seamless access to information and enhances overall pilot experience.
However, the question is why give an iPad that is outdated? Apple, the manufacturer of iPad 9, has already retired the product and moved on to the latest tenth-generation iPad. But IndiGo has given it a new lease of life claiming that is it still a capable tablet and works wonders for the airline.
