Vinayakan should be held and sent for medical treatment or public will handle: Congress leader

Kochi: Ernakulam District Congress Committee (DCC) President Mohammed Shiyas has strongly criticised actor Vinayakan over his recent controversial remarks. He called for the actor to be seized and taken for medical treatment, warning that if the government fails to act, the public may lay hands on him.
“Vinayakan is a public nuisance and is becoming an insult to artists,” Shiyas said. The Congress leader was reacting to a now-deleted Facebook post made by Vinayakan in which the actor criticised legendary singer K J Yesudas and filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan. The post was written in response to Adoor’s recent controversial remarks about women and the Dalit community at the Cinema Conclave. Vinayakan later withdrew the post and issued a public apology.
“Singer Vedan admitted his mistake when he was involved in a drug case. Such mistakes are admitted in the film industry. The government should seize Vinayakan away for treatment. Otherwise, the public will deal with him on the streets,” Shiyas said.
The Congress leader had filed an official complaint with the DGP against Vinayakan. The complaint accuses the actor of repeatedly insulting respected figures in the cultural field.
The complaint demands strong legal action, stating that Vinayakan seems to take pleasure in targeting well-known personalities.
