Kochi: Leader of opposition VD Satheesan has come out strongly against the police in connection with the handling of Pantheerankavu domestic violence case. While speaking to reporters at Kochi on Tuesday, Satheesan said that police had acted with indifference and the SHO had ridiculed the father of the newly-wed girl who was brutally assaulted by her husband.

“Kozhikode city police commissioner has given the assurance that proper action would be taken in connection with the incident and I have informed about this to the father of the girl”, Satheesan said.

“The girl was attacked in an unbelievable manner, that too within one week of the marriage. She was subjected to cruel torture as not even her parents could recognise her. We can’t let this take place in Kerala. The Pantheerankavu incident has inflicted so much shame on the people of the state which is considered as so enlightened. Nobody could tolerate this. Still, what is happening to our police? Are they with the hunters or with the hunted? “ Satheesan asked.

In Aluva, police had done nothing other than bringing the person who had complained about the attack unleashed against his house, to the police station, said Satheesan. “While the complainant was waiting in the police station, another attack was unleashed against his house by the goons. At Thiruvananthapuram, police have been reduced to mere spectators as goons and thugs roam freely spreading terror. It seems their hands are tied down. They provide protection to well known criminals too. The situation has become so bad as people have become afraid of going out of their houses. Though Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan was informed about this situation, nothing took place to resolve the problem”, he said. “Whether CM is in Kerala or not, the situation remains the same”, he said.

Satheesan also has said that he had discussed about the plus one seats with education minister V Sivankutty even before the announcement of the result of SSLC examination. “Minister had said that, the number of seats would be increased. But, that will be of no use. At some places including Malabar, a situation prevails there that students who have scored high marks can not get a chance to continue with their studies”, Satheesan said.
