Uma Thomas wishes her sons a happy new year; shows signs of improvement: Medical Director

Kochi: The health condition of Uma Thomas MLA, who sustained severe injuries after falling from a stage during a dance event at Kaloor Stadium, is showing signs of improvement, doctors have reported. They informed that although she is in pain, she softly wished her children a "Happy New Year”. However, doctors have decided to continue ventilator support for the time being.
"Uma Thomas wished her children 'Happy New Year' in a faint voice. She mentioned experiencing pain, but has no memory of the fall. She is breathing on her own and moving her hands and legs. Ventilator support will continue for another one or two days. We will only be able to confirm that she is out of danger 24 hours after being taken off the ventilator," said Medical Director Dr Krishnanunni Polakkulath.
On Tuesday, Uma Thomas could only move her hands and legs, and on Wednesday she was able to move her entire body. Ventilator support is gradually being reduced, according to an official post on Uma Thomas's Facebook page.
Police launch investigation into financial fraud allegations
An investigation into alleged financial fraud associated with the event has been initiated by the police. The Palarivattom police have registered a case of breaching of trust against four individuals based on a complaint filed by Biji, a local resident of Kaloor.
The accused are Mridanga Vision director Nighosh, his wife, CEO Shameer and actress Divya Unni’s friend Poornima.
Police are also considering action against dance teachers, as the money collection was reportedly carried out through them. Teachers are said to have acted as intermediaries. Further complaints may lead to additional charges being filed, according to sources.
