Tribunal orders woman to give maintenance to mother-in-law

Ernakulam: Muvattupuzha Maintenance Tribunal issued an order to give maintenance to a mother-in-law from the salary of the woman who gained job through compassionate appointment. The court found that the daughter-in-law is reluctant to take care of her husband’s mother. According to the order, the tribunal deducted the amount from the salary of the daughter-in-law and handed it over to the mother.
The legal action has been taken under the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act. Following the demise of the son, who was an officer in a bank, the complainant’s daughter-in-law obtained the job on compassionate grounds. However, the daughter-in-law refused to ensure financial security and protection to the husband’s mother and shifted to her own house in Airapuram. This urged the 72-year-old mother to lodge a complaint at the tribunal.
The tribunal had directed the daughter-in-law to confer a certain amount monthly to the complainant. But she refused to give away the money. Later, the tribunal informed the bank authority to deduct the amount monthly from her salary and transfer it to the complainant’s account.
