Heavy rains continue in Kerala; Orange alert issued in 5 districts

Thiruvananthapuram: As heavy rains continue to lash out across the state, especially in North Malabar, the Meteorological Department has announced that the situation is likely to continue for a couple of days more. According to them, heavy  rains will persist in the state in the coming days too. An orange warning has been issued for the districts of Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod for Tuesday due to the likelihood of heavy rainfall. 

A low-pressure system has formed in the Bay of Bengal off the coast of Odisha. Additionally, another depression is expected to form over the West Midwest on the 19th over the Bay of Bengal itself. Heavy rain is anticipated until Friday. Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts are under an orange warning for Wednesday and Thursday.

On Friday, heavy rain is expected in Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts, with a yellow warning issued. Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Palakkad districts are under a yellow alert for Tuesday. In addition to these districts, Wayanad and Malappuram are under a yellow alert for Wednesday. Fishing is prohibited until the 19th.
