SFI-KSU clash; 4, including female student, injured in attack at TVM law college

Thiruvananthapuram: Clashes broke out between SFI and KSU activists at Govt Law College in Thiruvananthapuram. Three KSU workers and an SFI activist were injured in the skirmish that erupted after a verbal battle between the two student unions. KSU unit president Safna Yakub, general secretary Ashik Ashraf, Nithin Thampi and SFI committee member Anandu were admitted to the medical college hospital here.
The incident happened amid the celebrations of union inauguration at 8.15 pm on Tuesday. The programmes were conducted in the classrooms due to rain. Later, SFI workers assaulted a KSU activist Ashik on the campus. Another student Safna, who attempted to save Ashik, was also beaten up by SFI workers. The visuals of the students attacking Safna went viral on social media.
KSU said that inebriated SFI workers started the attack during the programme. At the same time, SFI alleged that the students had intervened when a KSU worker talked to a girl in an indecent way and it was the KSU which turned it into a serious clash.
Another minor clash erupted in front of the medical college too. Police arrived when more students from university college flocked to the spot.
Though SFI had won the union election this year, KSU had secured the seat of vice chairperson in the union. Already conflicts were brewing up on the campus in connection with this. Both SFI and KSU have lodged complaints at the museum police station.
