Thrissur: Member of the Human Rights Commission, V. Geetha, has stated that legal action should be taken against restaurants that fail to provide printed bills to customers or attempt to retrieve bills after issuing them.

The statement was issued in response to a complaint filed by Radhakrishnan, an office bearer of Farmers Coordination Committee, who raised a series of concerns regarding consumer rights violations in the hospitality sector.

As part of the directive, the Commission emphasised the need to strengthen the Operation Moonlight inspections currently being conducted across the state to identify irregularities in the hotel and restaurant industry.

Geetha also instructed that price lists be prominently displayed in all establishments in a location clearly visible to customers, ensuring transparency in pricing.

In addition, the reply stressed the importance of verifying the accuracy of weighing and measuring instruments used by businesses to prevent unfair trade practices.

The Commission’s directive aims to reinforce consumer rights protections and accountability in the food service industry, ensuring customers are treated fairly and in accordance with the law.
