Palakkad: Industrialist Anand Mahindra shared a video of a tranquil village in Palakkad, Kerala, calling it the perfect escape from the relentless pace of modern life. In the video, Mahindra highlighted the village’s authenticity and simplicity, noting the appeal of observing everyday life in a place untouched by tourism.

In his post on X, Mahindra wrote: “This is apparently a village in Palakkad, Kerala. Shared by @iAkankshaP to depict a ‘South Indian Village Morning.’ It’s not a tourist destination, nor is it trying to be. But at its best, travel awakens us to moments that are authentic, experiences that endure in our memories. And today, as a #SundayWanderer, I found myself wishing I could step into this village and become a silent participant in its rhythm, simplicity, and grace. The perfect escape from the relentless pace of modern life.”

Kodunthirapully, the village in focus, consists of a smaller settlement known as Adikesavapuram and a larger attached village, with approximately 209 houses arranged in double rows. While the old facades are preserved, modern facilities are available inside. A public well at the village centre is maintained and used regularly. The agrahara deities are Ayyappan and Perumal.

Kodunthirapully is known for its Navratri celebrations and musical events. Its community of women and children, who dance to Panchavadyam, Pandi and Panchari, has gained popularity on social media. The village has also served as a backdrop for over 30 films, including 'Perumazhakkalam', 'Varnakkazhchakal', 'Puthiya Mugham', 'Pattalam', 'Bheeshmar', and Tamil films such as 'Sandhitha Velai' and 'Silambattam'. The recent film 'Sumathi Valavu' also features Kodunthirapully.

Local residents expressed pride at Mahindra’s remarks. Retired KSRTC administrative officer K.G. Ramamurthy called it recognition of the village’s peaceful and clean life, while KN Vignesh, a maths teacher in Chennai Hindustan International Schools, noted concern about the potential rise in visitors following the viral post.
