KSRTC launches Chalo Cards for cashless travel across Kerala

Alappuzha: The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has completed testing of its new ticket machines equipped to read Chalo smart cards. Starting Friday, passengers will no longer need to carry cash to purchase tickets. The new system is similar to ATM card swiping, offering greater convenience for travellers.
Smart travel goes statewide
Originally launched in Thiruvananthapuram, the Chalo smart card system was later introduced in Kollam. It is now being rolled out in the districts of Alappuzha, Ernakulam, and Pathanamthitta.
Easy to get, Easy to use
The Chalo card costs ₹100, with a minimum recharge of ₹50 and a maximum limit of ₹3,000. Cards can be purchased from conductors, KSRTC marketing executives, or at various KSRTC units. Passengers can even lend their card to relatives or friends for travel.
Lost or damaged cards
If a card is lost, the user is solely responsible. Lost cards will not be replaced. However, if a card becomes non-functional, passengers can submit an application at their respective KSRTC unit. The IT department will verify and issue a replacement card within five working days. If a card is physically damaged -- broken or bent -- a new card will be issued for a fixed fee, and the balance from the old card will be transferred.
Tampering with the card is strictly prohibited and will invite legal action.
Special recharge offers
KSRTC has also announced limited-time recharge offers.
Recharge ₹1,000 and receive an additional ₹40
Recharge ₹2,000 and receive an extra ₹100
Card balances are valid for one year. If unused for more than a year, the card will need to be reactivated.
Strong public response
The launch of the KSRTC Chalo card in Alappuzha district received an enthusiastic response. On the first day alone, a large number of cards were distributed, particularly at the Alappuzha and Cherthala depots. Many depots have reported high public interest and a steady stream of inquiries.
Where to get the card
From Saturday, full-scale distribution will begin. Passengers can obtain the card directly from conductors during journeys, from depot counters, and via marketing executives. Online options for purchasing and recharging are also available.
