27-year-old Kozhikode man dies of electric shock in hospital canteen, case filed against hospital

Thiruvambadi (Kozhikode): A 27-year-old man, Abin Binu, tragically died from an electric shock at St. Joseph's Hospital canteen in Thiruvambadi, Kozhikode. He had gone to visit a friend who was undergoing treatment at the hospital. The police have registered a case against the hospital, following a complaint by Abin’s relative, Anishmon Antony.
Thiruvambadi Sub-Inspector V K Razak stated that an inspection was carried out at the hospital by electrical inspectors and scientific experts, confirming that the cause of death was due to electric shock. A charge sheet will be prepared after further investigation.
Abin, the son of Binu and Raji, died last Thursday night. His father, Binu, has lodged a complaint with the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DYSP), highlighting a serious security lapse on the part of the hospital management. The complaint accuses the hospital of failing to provide treatment or refer his electrocuted son to another facility in time.
Friends said that Abin was electrocuted after coming into contact with a wire that had been left exposed in the canteen area. His friend, who was with him at the time, also received an electric shock during the rescue attempt. When the hospital was approached for further clarification, the response was that the PRO was not available.
Abin Binu, who worked as a bar employee in Kottayam, was the sole breadwinner for his family. He leaves behind two sisters.
