Rs 6,000 crores granted for overall development of Kochi

Thiruvananthapuram: Finance Minister Thomas Isaac said that an environmental-friendly and integrated transport system will be developed in Kochi. The government has allotted Rs 6,000 crores for the overall development of Kochi city that includes important overbridges and roads.

  • Rs. 3025 crores allotted for the construction of new lines for Kochi Metro from Petta to Thrippunithura and from Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium to Kakkanad.
  • The intergrated water transport with 38 Jetties and 76-kilometre waterway will cost Rs 682 crores.
  • Water transport department will be provided with solar boats, eco-friendly vehicles, electric or CNG transport vehicles, KSEB charging stations.
  • Smart services will be implemented in transport vehicles like mobile app, cctv, passenger information center. All bus operators will be included in a single cluster.
  • Uniform ticket card will be implemented for water metro and transport bus.
  • There will be arrangements to reduce vehicle-less transport like safe walkways, cycle track, road safety metro rail and water transport connectivity.
  • Kochi Metropolitan Transport Authority, that oversees all these, will be granted Rs. 2.5 crores.
