Kochi: The World Health Organization (WHO) of the United Nations Organization has identified Kochi as an age-friendly city, the first South Asian city to receive the honour.

Kochi Mayor Adv. M. Anilkumar had attended the Leadership Summit of the WHO on 14th June 2023 where he delivered a presentation which illustrated several programmes and projects implemented by Kochi corporation. This, in turn, led to the announcement of the honour.

The innovations include making buildings and public spaces age-friendly, providing medical, social, and technical assistance to the elderly, taxi services exclusively for the elderly and other novel transformations.
