Kasargod: BJP state president K Surendran will appear for interrogation on Thursday in connection with the Manjeshwaram election bribery case. Surendran was served a notice by the Crime Branch for allegedly bribing BSP candidate K Sundara to withdraw his candidature in Manjeshwaram seat during the assembly elections.

V V Ramesh, the LDF candidate in the constituency, had lodged a complaint in this regard. The Crime Branch decided to question Surendran amid complaints that there is no progress in the investigation in the case.

Earlier, the probe team had recorded the statements of  Sundara's family members and the people who handed over money to Sundara directly to withdraw his nomination papers. The police had recovered Rs 2 lakh from Sundara and seized his mobile phone also.

The crime branch has issued a notice to BJP state president K Surendran as part to speed up the ongoing probe. Surendran had earlier been given notice in the case but he did not appear citing several reasons.
