Doc without degree treats patient resulting in death in Kozhikode: Investigation underway

Kadalundi: A 30-year-old man was arrested for posing as a doctor after the death of a patient at TMH Hospital in Kottakadavu, Kozhikode. The Farooq police arrested Abu Abraham Luke, resident of Pathanamthitta, on Monday night following a complaint from the family of the deceased. The accused has been residing at Kadalundi.
The patient, Vinod Kumar, aged 60, was admitted to the hospital on September 23 around 4:30 am due to chest pain. According to his family, he underwent a blood test without a proper examination, and he passed away within half an hour.
On September 27, Vinod's son, Ashwin, who is also a doctor, visited the hospital to treat his uncle. During this visit, he found that Abu Abraham Luke did not have a valid MBBS degree. This led the family to file a complaint with the police.
The accused had been treating patients without completing his MBBS degree. Farooq Assistant Commissioner A. M. Siddique stated that a case has been registered against him under sections related to fraud, impersonation, the Indian Medical Council Act, and the Travancore Cochin Medical Practitioners Act.
The family claimed that Abu Abraham had been working as a Resident Medical Officer (RMO) at the hospital for five years. The hospital manager, Manoj P., confirmed that he had employed Abu Abraham for two days a week based on his experience at other facilities. However, he stated that the fake doctor has now been removed from his position.
Police investigation revealed that Abu Abraham had enrolled for MBBS in 2011. The hospital manager mentioned that the accused had provided an MBBS registration number to the hospital when he joined, which is now under scrutiny.
