ISRO spy case: Ex-DGP’s affidavit with SC flags role of intelligence agencies in Pakistan, flays CBI

New Delhi: RB Sreekumar, Ex-DGP of Gujarat and one of the accused in the ISRO espionage case that framed former scientist Nambi Narayanan, in a fresh affidavit filled with the Supreme Court has flagged the role of intelligence agencies in Pakistan. In the affidavit, Sreekumar has claimed that the examining the report submitted by Intelligence Bureau (IB) ex-director DC Pathak to Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) revealed spies were backed by intelligence agencies in Pakistan.

He has urged the court to examine the same. Sreekumar in his affidavit has also alleged that it is the CBI which impaired the investigation in to ISRO espionage case. Notably, the fresh affidavit comes in response to the petition filed by the CBI against anticipatory bail for accused including Sreekumkar.  

According to Sreekumar, DC Pathak in October-December stretch of 1994 submitted 10 reports to PMO.  In these reports, there are many crucial revelations like role of intelligence agencies in Pakistan. Similarly, there are 71 video cassettes of IB’s questioning. Sreekumar has urged the SC to examine all these items.

He in his affidavit suspicion about the CBI’s conduct. The affidavit said that Kerala police investigated the case and handed over it to CBI within 15 days. In spite of many evidences CBI concluded the case soon, which according to Sreekumar is seemingly dubious. He has also batted that Justice DK Jain committee report should not be considered at face value as the commission only conversed with Nambi Narayanan. He has pointed out that the commission never interacted with IB or police officers who investigated the case.

Sreekumar claimed that argument that he threatened Narayanan is not correct and he has no grudge towards him. According to Sreekumar, both Narayanan and CBI did not make any remarks about custodial ill-treatment or violence. Similarly, ISRO and CBI too have not made such remarks. To corroborate this further, Sreekumar in his affidavit has cited the investigation carried out by CISF director general KM Singh over the matter.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Monday will consider the plea filed by the CBI against the four accused in the espionage case i.e R B Sreekumar, S Vijayan, Thampi S Durga Dutt, and P S Jayaprakash. The Bench comprised of Justices A M Khanwilkar and C T Ravikumar is looking over the plea.
