Aluva POCSO case: Accused history-sheeter, police laxity alleged

Parassala: Appalling details have emerged about Christil Raj, the Chengal native who was arrested for abducting and sexually assaulting an 8-year-old girl in Aluva who was sleeping in her home. There are other cases of assault and theft recorded in his name. Allegations are also rife that the Parassala police did not make a concerted effort to nab Raj when he absconded on bail in the case of sexually assaulting a housewife in 2017.
He was arrested by the Parassala police in 2017 for assaulting a housewife. After getting bail from the court, Raj absconded and the court issued an arrest warrant when he failed to appear for the hearing of the case.
A year and a half ago, Raj shifted to Aluva with his relative to look for a job. Relatives say that he used to come back home from time to time but stopped after police came looking for him.
Learning that the police were conducting a search in his home, Raj changed his phone number. However, it is alleged that the Parassala police knew that he was in Aluva but did not try to apprehend him. The house inspection was apparently just done for the namesake.
He used different aliases and in Aluva, he went by Christy and Satheesh. There are theft cases against him in Perumbavoor, Balaramapuram, and Neyyattinkara police stations. He is a nocturnal being and has a habit of roaming the streets at night, his mother says. Christin’s mother also said that there was a pile of stolen mobile phones in his home.
