46 shops booked by legal metrology department in Kozhikode

Kozhikode: With the onset of the Onam season, the legal metrology department conducted inspections at 354 business institutions across the district. Actions were taken against 46 centres during the inspection. Fines amounting to Rs 29,000 have been collected as well. The inspections were conducted as per the directions of legal metrology controller VK Abdul Khadar.
Cases were registered against the business institutions that violated the legal metrology rules. Cases were registered and fines collected from institutions with inadequate documents and from those whose products were found to be underweight, packed without necessary declarations. Legal action will be initiated against the business centres in case they fail to pay fines on time.
The inspections will continue till the end of Onam season. Shops that use substandard weights and balances, sell underweight products, in packets without necessary declaration, and those who are found guilty of selling over priced products will face legal action.
Based on the statistics for the current fiscal year, the Legal Metrology Department has conducted inspections in 2,600 business establishments within the district. During these inspections, a total of 505 cases were identified, resulting in the collection of fines totaling Rs 14.64 lakhs from these businesses.
