Chennai: The Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) has openly expressed dissatisfaction with actor-politician Vijay and his party TVK over post-election negotiations aimed at securing support to form the Tamil Nadu government.

In a strongly worded social media post, VCK general secretary Sinthanai Selvan questioned why Vijay had not personally met alliance leaders and political parties whose support he was seeking. The party criticised what it described as an informal and politically inappropriate approach to coalition-building during a sensitive political situation.

‘Why WhatsApp messages instead of direct talks?’

The VCK particularly objected to reports that support requests were allegedly sent through WhatsApp messages asking leaders to “reply and let us know”. The party argued that such communication was not suitable for serious political negotiations involving government formation.

Sinthanai Selvan said Vijay should have directly met leaders and openly discussed issues such as preventing the BJP from gaining influence in Tamil Nadu through the Governor’s office. According to the VCK, face-to-face political consultations would have shown greater seriousness and respect toward potential allies.

The party also targeted some second-rung TVK leaders, accusing them of misguiding Vijay and using his popularity for their own political battles.

In his remarks, Sinthanai Selvan alleged that certain leaders around Vijay were “keeping him confined as a prince” and preventing him from engaging openly with other political leaders. He further claimed that some individuals within TVK were attempting to settle personal scores with the DMK using Vijay’s public image and charisma.

‘Peak of arrogance’ remark sparks attention

The VCK strongly criticised statements allegedly made by some TVK leaders suggesting that DMK and AIADMK leaders would face arrests if Vijay came to power.

Calling such remarks “the peak of arrogance”, the party said the comments reflected a vengeful political mindset rather than responsible leadership. It argued that after an electoral victory, Vijay should have adopted a more conciliatory and inclusive tone instead of intensifying political confrontation.

The VCK also pointed out what it described as contradictions in TVK’s political messaging. The party questioned how Vijay could criticise “dynastic politics” while simultaneously seeking support from Congress leaders and parties associated with the DMK-led alliance.

The remarks referenced Congress leaders from the Nehru-Gandhi family and highlighted the irony of attacking dynastic politics while depending on parties linked to such political traditions for support.

Resort politics and Governor’s Rule concerns

The party additionally criticised reports of MLAs being moved to resorts, accusing TVK of reviving “resort politics” in Tamil Nadu instead of managing coalition partners through political dialogue.

At the same time, the VCK accused the BJP of trying to create conditions that could lead to Governor’s Rule in the state and urged the public to remain alert against any attempt to destabilise the democratic mandate.

According to sources quoted in reports, TVK has reportedly secured support from around 116 MLAs, including backing from five Congress legislators, leaving the party short of the majority mark needed to comfortably form the government.

Amid the ongoing uncertainty, Vijay met Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Arlekar for the third time in 48 hours and formally staked claim to form the government. However, suspense continues over when the swearing-in ceremony will take place and whether additional support can be secured.
