Dehradun: The India Meteorological Department has issued an alert for several districts in Uttarakhand, forecasting heavy rain and hailstorms in isolated areas on Thursday. Districts under alert include Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Dehradun and Tehri.

According to the forecast, many parts of the hilly regions are likely to experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and hail. Gusty winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph are expected, with occasional gusts up to 60 kmph in some locations.

Rain likely across hills and plains

Light to moderate rainfall is expected at several locations across Dehradun, Tehri, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh. The weather system is also likely to affect isolated pockets in the plains districts of the state.

The IMD has also warned of snowfall in areas located at altitudes of 4,200 metres and above, indicating active weather conditions in the higher Himalayan regions.

Temperature trends and forecast

Over the past 24 hours, maximum temperatures in the plains remained normal, while hill regions recorded below-normal temperatures. The IMD has forecast no major change in temperatures over the next two to three days, followed by a possible rise of 2–3°C thereafter.

Authorities have advised residents in vulnerable areas to remain cautious due to the risk of landslides, lightning strikes and temporary disruptions caused by intense rain and strong winds.

Uttarakhand is expected to witness active weather conditions with a mix of heavy rain, hailstorms and snowfall in higher altitudes, as the IMD continues to monitor evolving atmospheric patterns across the Himalayan region.
