Traffickers flee, contraband seized — here’s how BSF rescued 30 cattle and stopped 7 infiltrators along the India-Bangladesh border

Kolkata: The Border Security Force (BSF) thwarted multiple smuggling attempts and illegal infiltration bids along the India-Bangladesh border on Wednesday, reporting major successes in West Bengal’s North 24-Parganas, Nadia, and Malda districts.
Acting on intelligence inputs, troops from the 88 Battalion BSF, stationed at the Itaghati Border Outpost, heightened their alertness. A special ambush team was deployed.
At approximately 4.30 am, the team spotted a group of 20–22 suspected smugglers advancing towards the border fence with cattle. Despite verbal warnings, the miscreants fled, exploiting the darkness and marshy terrain. A subsequent search led to the seizure of 17 large and eight medium-sized buffaloes.
Troops from the 71 Battalion, posted near the Boyraghat Border Outpost, rescued four more cattle, while one buffalo was intercepted and secured at Sovapur Border Outpost.
Drugs and contraband seized across districts
In Nadia district, jawans from the 146 Battalion, posted at Narsaripara Border Outpost, recovered 8.2 kg of ganja. Meanwhile, troops from the 143 Battalion intercepted a consignment of banned and illegal medicines.
Elsewhere in North 24-Parganas, BSF personnel repelled an attempted infiltration by seven Bangladeshi nationals who were trying to cross into Indian territory.
Seized items handed over to authorities
According to a BSF official, the rescued cattle will be handed over to the Dhyan Foundation after e-tagging is completed. All recovered drugs and illegal consignments will be transferred to the relevant authorities for legal action.
Force remains alert to thwart illegal activities
“The Border Security Force is consistently undertaking stringent measures to curb smuggling and illegal infiltration. The force is fully committed to eliminating all forms of illegal activity along the border. Our jawans remain vigilant at all times and are fully prepared to thwart any attempt at smuggling or infiltration,” said N K Pandey, DIG and spokesperson, South Bengal Frontier, BSF.
