Shocking cruelty: Puppies burned alive in West Bengal’s Hatpukur; probe underway

Howrah, West Bengal: In a horrifying act of cruelty, five puppies were set on fire and killed by unidentified men on Friday night in the Hatpukur area, Times of India reported.
The incident happened after the puppies cried out in the cold, sparking outrage among residents. On Saturday afternoon, animal welfare activists staged a protest demanding strict action against the accused.
A senior officer of Howrah City Police told TOI that the puppies and their mother had been crying due to the harsh winter for several days. Irritated by the noise, some residents from a nearby complex allegedly poured petrol on the puppies from their vehicles and set them ablaze. The mother dog also sustained injuries in the attack.
Animal welfare representatives visited the site on Saturday morning. They brought the incident to public attention and demanded punishment for the culprits, taking responsibility for the care of the injured mother dog. Other organisations also lodged complaints at Jagacha police station.
The police recovered the charred bodies of the puppies and sent them for autopsy. Jagacha police have launched an investigation, and CCTV footage has helped identify the suspects. Efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest those responsible, who remain at large.
