Pune: NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar was discharged from a private hospital in Pune on Saturday after undergoing treatment for a chest infection. The senior leader left Ruby Hall Clinic around 1 pm, doctors confirmed.

Pawar, 85, was admitted earlier this week after he complained of breathing difficulty and persistent cough at his residence in Baramati. Doctors said his condition has improved and he is now stable.

His daughter and NCP (SP) working president Supriya Sule said he has been advised complete rest for three to four days before resuming public activities.

In a statement, she said Pawar thanked everyone who enquired about his health and expressed gratitude to the doctors, nurses and hospital staff who treated him.

Earlier in the day, Dr Purvez Grant, chief cardiologist and chairman of Ruby Hall Clinic, said Pawar had recovered well and would be discharged after medical evaluation. The medical team advised him to rest before gradually returning to his routine work.

According to close aide Vitthal Maniyar, the veteran politician will stay at his Pune residence for the next few days and may travel to Mumbai after completing his medication.

Sharad Pawar, a former Union minister and oral cancer survivor, continues to remain active in politics.
