Chennai: Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar will assume additional charge as Governor-in-charge of Tamil Nadu on March 12, with Chief Justice of the Madras High Court, Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari, set to administer the oath, according to media reports.
The move follows the appointment of RN Ravi as the new Governor of West Bengal, part of a broader reshuffle of Governors and Lieutenant Governors announced by Rashtrapati Bhavan ahead of the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections.
President Droupadi Murmu effected several key changes on Thursday. In the reshuffle:
Taranjit Singh Sandhu replaced V. K. Saxena, who has now been appointed Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh. Sandhu had also contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as a BJP candidate.
Senior BJP leader Nand Kishore Yadav has been appointed Governor of Nagaland, and Lt Gen (Retd.) Syed Ata Hasnain has been named Governor of Bihar.
Shiv Pratap Shukla, the Governor of Himachal Pradesh, will now serve as Governor of Telangana, while Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma has been transferred to Maharashtra.
Kavinder Gupta, the outgoing Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, has been appointed Governor of Himachal Pradesh.
Meanwhile, a day after resigning as the governor of West Bengal, CV Ananda Bose said he was shifting to his home state, Kerala, to work for 'Viksit Bharat' (developed India).
In a post on X, Bose said he will work "under the guidance of the national leadership for achieving the goals of this great mission" and do his best to further the cause of our "dear Keralam".
"My innings in West Bengal is coming to a close. I am deeply indebted to the great people of Bengal for the affection and regards lavished on me," he said, sharing a copy of his resignation letter.
"I am shifting to Kerala to work towards Viksit Bharat. I will work under the guidance of the national leadership for achieving the goals of this great mission and do my best to further the cause of our dear Keralam, which is my home state," he added.
However, Bose did not specify in what capacity or role he would work in the southern state, where elections are expected to be announced in a few days.
