No exam, no fee: POWERGRID offers paid apprenticeships across South India

The Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), a Maharatna Enterprise under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, has invited online applications from eligible and dynamic candidates for a one-year Apprenticeship program across its Southern Region-II.

The apprenticeship opportunities are available in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala across multiple trades.

Karnataka Region:

  • Diploma (Civil/Electrical)
  • Graduate (Electrical/Civil/Computer Science/Electronics & Telecommunications)
  • ITI (Electrician)
  • Rajbasha Assistant, CSR Executive, Law Executive, HR Executive, PR Assistant

Tamil Nadu Region:

  • Diploma (Civil/Electrical)
  • Graduate (Electrical/Civil)
  • ITI (Electrician)

Kerala Region:

  • Diploma (Civil/Electrical)
  • Graduate (Electrical/Civil)
  • ITI (Electrician)
  • Law Executive

Apprentice trainees may be assigned to any location within the state based on availability and requirement.

Eligibility

Applicants should have completed their qualifying examination within two years from the closing date of application and must be medically fit as per the Apprentices Act, 1961.

Candidates awaiting final results, below 18 years of age, already undergone/currently undergoing apprenticeship training, or with more than one year of job experience are not eligible to apply.

Application Process

Applications are to be submitted in two steps:

Step 1:

Register on the relevant portal –

For HR/CSR/Business Development/Law/PR/Rajbhasha/Library Professional/ITI (Electrician): NAPS

For Degree/Diploma in Engineering: NATS

Step 2:

After obtaining the NAPS/NATS registration/enrolment number, candidates must apply online through the POWERGRID website www.powergrid.in

under Careers > Engagement of Apprentices latest by October 6, 2025.

No application fee, written examination, or interview is required.

Selection & Shortlisting

Applications will be screened based on merit, considering the eligibility criteria and prescribed qualifications for each trade. Reservation will be applicable for SC/ST/OBC(NCL) candidates as per the Apprentices Act, 1961, and the Apprenticeship Rules, 1992 (as amended).

Shortlisted candidates will be notified via registered email and called for document verification in a ratio of 1:5 to the number of available slots. No TA/DA will be paid for the verification process.

A final merit list will be prepared based on candidates who report for document verification and meet all eligibility requirements.

Engagement will be formalised through the tri-partite apprenticeship contract on NATS/NAPS, along with submission of a medical certificate and police verification.

Stipend & Duration

Selected apprentices will receive a monthly stipend as per norms. Additionally, under the Government of India’s NATS scheme, a Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) amount of ₹4,000 for Diploma Apprentices and ₹4,500 for Graduate Apprentices will be provided.

The duration of the apprenticeship is one year from the date of joining. The training will be automatically concluded upon completion of one year, with no extension. Apprentices cannot take up any regular job or academic course during this period.
