“Today, we bow in reverence to the brave sons of Bharat Mata, Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev. Their martyrdom for the nation remains etched in our collective memory,” Modi said.
Highlighting their courage at a young age, he noted that the trio displayed “extraordinary courage and an unshakable commitment” to the cause of India’s freedom.
The Prime Minister added that their ideals of justice, patriotism, and fearless resistance continue to inspire generations across the country.
Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev were executed by the British on March 23, 1931, in Lahore Jail for their role in the Lahore Conspiracy Case, including the killing of British officer John Saunders in 1928.
Their sacrifice is commemorated every year as Shaheed Diwas (Martyrs’ Day), observed across India to honour their legacy and contribution to the freedom struggle.
Leaders from across the political spectrum, along with citizens, also paid homage to the martyrs on the occasion, recalling their role in galvanising the independence movement and inspiring youth to stand against colonial rule.
Several events, including tribute ceremonies, educational programmes, and cultural initiatives, were organised in different parts of the country to mark the day and keep alive the legacy of the three revolutionaries among younger generations.
