New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to attend the Christmas celebrations organized by the Catholic Bishops' Conference of India (CBCI) at the CBCI Centre in New Delhi at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. This marks a historic moment as it will be the first time a Prime Minister has participated in the festive event at the headquarters of the Catholic Church in India.

During the event, PM Modi is expected to interact with prominent leaders from the Christian community, including Cardinals, Bishops, and key lay figures. His attendance underscores the government’s commitment to promoting inclusive cultural dialogue and strengthening ties with the Christian community, according to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).

The Catholic Bishops' Conference of India, established in 1944, is a key body representing the interests of Catholics across the nation, playing a vital role in faith-based initiatives and addressing social issues affecting the community.

Earlier last week on December 19, PM Modi also attended a Christmas celebration at the residence of Union Minister George Kurian. During the event, he engaged with distinguished members of the Christian community, further emphasizing the spirit of inclusivity.

In a post on the social media platform X, PM Modi shared: "Attended the Christmas celebrations at the residence of Union Minister George Kurian Ji. Also interacted with eminent members of the Christian community @GeorgekurianBjp."

George Kurian, a BJP leader from Kerala, was inducted into the Union Cabinet on June 9. His appointment is seen as part of the government's outreach to the Christian community.

Christmas, which celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ, is a time for religious services, prayers, and carol singing, reflecting on the values of love, sacrifice, and compassion. The events highlight the government's attempt to navigate the complexities of religious representation, but it remains to be seen how these interactions translate into tangible support for the Christian community in the country.
