US-India relations: Marco Rubio set to visit India next month

Washington: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is scheduled to visit New Delhi next month, following what officials described as a “productive meeting” with India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri in Washington, marking a fresh boost to India-US relations and ongoing engagement under the Quad framework.
The announcement was made after Misri’s high-level discussions at the White House, where both sides reviewed key pillars of the bilateral strategic partnership, including trade relations, defence cooperation, critical minerals, and Indo-Pacific coordination through the Quad.
US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor, who attended the meeting, posted on X: “Welcome to the White House @VikramMisri! Productive meeting with @SecRubio that focused on our bilateral relationship, especially trade, critical minerals, defence and the Quad.”
Gor also confirmed that Secretary Rubio is looking forward to his upcoming visit to India next month, underscoring continued momentum in India-US diplomatic engagement.
High-level US-India diplomatic meetings in Washington
During his visit, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri also held separate meetings with US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau and Under Secretary for Political Affairs Allison Hooker.
According to a statement from the US Department of State, Deputy Secretary Landau and Misri reaffirmed the strength of the India-US strategic partnership, while also discussing developments in the Persian Gulf and other global and regional priorities.
Hooker said discussions focused on deepening cooperation across security, defence collaboration, and economic ties between India and the United States.
She added: “We are finding practical ways to make both Americans and Indians safer and more prosperous, including through the Quad.”
The Indian Embassy in Washington said both sides also reviewed progress on the bilateral agenda since the last Foreign Office Consultations held in December, and exchanged assessments on recent developments in West Asia and broader regional security issues.

Broader geopolitical context
The diplomatic exchanges come at a time of heightened geopolitical activity, with US Vice President JD Vance reportedly leading a delegation to Islamabad for talks linked to a Pakistan-brokered ceasefire agreement involving Iran and regional stakeholders, highlighting ongoing efforts to stabilise tensions in West Asia.
The series of meetings underscores strengthening India-US strategic, defence, and economic cooperation, with the upcoming Rubio visit expected to further consolidate engagement on trade, security, and Indo-Pacific strategy.
