Manipur police’s appeal triggers mass surrender of illegal weapons as security ops Intensify

Imphal: In response to a public appeal by Manipur Police, individuals in Thoubal, Imphal East, and Imphal West districts have voluntarily surrendered a significant number of illegal firearms, ammunition, and explosives. Among the surrendered weapons were AK-56 rifles, sniper rifles, hand grenades, and improvised explosive devices (IEDs), indicating a major step in reducing illegal arms circulation in the state.
Security operations continued in vulnerable areas, leading to the recovery of additional illegal weapons, including country-made firearms and IEDs in Churachandpur district. Additionally, two illegal bunkers were dismantled in Kangpokpi district, further stabilizing the region.
Authorities arrested an active member of the KCP (Noyon) group involved in extortion and stepped up security along NH-2, ensuring the safe passage of over 300 vehicles carrying essential supplies. A total of 110 security checkpoints have been established to curb further unrest.
Police continue to appeal for the surrender of looted arms and warn the public against misinformation and false videos. The administration remains focused on restoring peace and ensuring law and order in the region.
