Mumbai: Hundreds of Apple enthusiasts gathered outside the flagship Apple Store at Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) in Mumbai on September 19, 2025, eagerly waiting to get their hands on the newly launched iPhone 17 series. Some arrived before sunrise to be among the first buyers in the queue, highlighting the strong demand for Apple's latest flagship devices.

Customer Excitement

Customers like Amaan Memon expressed enthusiasm for the iPhone 17 Pro Max's new design and powerful features. "I'm really looking forward to the iPhone 17 Pro Max series. Apple has introduced a fresh design this time. With the A19 Bionic chip powering it, the gaming experience is sure to be enhanced. I have been eagerly waiting for this particular colour to launch for the past six months, and I was thrilled when I heard it was coming," he said.

However, fervour turned tense when a brief scuffle broke out among a few people waiting in the long queues outside the BKC Apple Store. Security personnel intervened quickly to manage the situation and restore order amid the rush. Despite this, enthusiasm among Apple fans remained strong, with similar long lines reported at Apple stores in Delhi and other major cities across India.

Launch and Availability

The iPhone 17 series includes four models: iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. All models now start with a baseline storage of 256GB, doubling that of the previous generation. The new lineup features the powerful A19 chip, upgraded 48MP Fusion cameras, and ProMotion display technology, delivering enhanced performance, stunning visuals, and better energy efficiency.

Design and Features

The iPhone 17 sports a 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate and peak brightness of 3,000 nits, making it brighter and more vivid than before. The new Ceramic Shield 2 glass offers improved scratch resistance. The Pro models come equipped with three 48MP Fusion cameras, including an advanced telephoto lens with up to 8x optical zoom, and an 18MP Centre Stage front camera that elevates selfies and video calling.

Local Manufacturing Milestone

In a significant step, Apple has ramped up local manufacturing for the iPhone 17 series in India. The phones are produced across five local factories, including new plants operated by Tata Group and Foxconn. This move not only supports India's growing reputation as a technology hub but also reduces supply chain dependencies on China.

Pricing and Market Response

The iPhone 17 starts at ₹82,900 for the 256GB variant, with the Air model priced from ₹1,19,900. The Pro model starts at ₹1,34,900, while the top-tier Pro Max retails from ₹1,49,900. Popular models like the Cosmic Orange iPhone 17 Pro Max have already sold out at select locations, and offline retailers are reportedly charging premiums up to ₹40,000 above the official price for immediate availability.
