New Delhi: India Post has opened its first Gen Z-themed revamped Post Office at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, marking a major step in the organisation’s ongoing modernisation drive, the Ministry of Communications has announced.

The initiative forms part of Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia’s wider vision to transform traditional Post Offices into dynamic, youth-oriented spaces designed to engage students and young citizens.

The redesigned Campus Post Office at IIT Delhi represents a comprehensive rethinking of how postal services can operate within educational institutions. Developed in collaboration with students, the facility features contemporary interiors, Wi-Fi-enabled areas, and creative graffiti and artwork provided by the IIT Fine Arts Society. It also incorporates smart service touchpoints, including QR-based parcel booking and discounted Speed Post options tailored to students.

The project is one element of a national programme to revamp 46 Post Offices located on educational campuses by December 15, 2025.

A key component of the scheme is active student involvement. India Post is recruiting students as brand ambassadors, co-designers and partners in social media outreach. In a first for the postal service, a student franchise model has been introduced at IIT Delhi, offering participants hands-on experience in postal operations and supporting entrepreneurial development. Special branded packaging services have also been made available to simplify parcel bookings for students.

The inauguration ceremony highlighted the contributions of the IIT Delhi community, including the Director, Deans, faculty and student groups, whose input helped shape the revamped space.

According to the Ministry of Communications, India Post remains committed to creating modern, accessible and student-friendly postal facilities across academic institutions nationwide.

Last month, Scindia announced that India Post would roll out guaranteed delivery services for Speed Post and parcels, with 24-hour and 48-hour timelines, starting January 2026.
