Video shared on social media showed the single-seat aircraft plunge toward the ground and erupt into flames; several eyewitness clips indicated that no ejection was visible before impact. International and Indian media outlets published the footage and eyewitness accounts as authorities moved to secure the site and begin investigations.
Political and defence figures expressed condolences. Senior Indian leaders and defence officials described the crash as a tragic loss; the IAF said it stands with the bereaved family as a formal inquiry gets underway. Analysts and defence experts called for a thorough court of inquiry to establish whether the cause was technical, human, environmental, or a combination.
The Tejas — India’s indigenous light combat aircraft built by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) — has been a focal point of India’s plans to modernize its fighter fleet. The jet featured in the Dubai Airshow displays as part of India’s participation in the event; organisers and local emergency services reported a prompt firefighting response at the scene.
