Cases of unruly passenger behaviour onboard aircraft are rising by the day. An incident onboard an IndiGo Chennai-Mumbai flight has led to unnecessary delay in not just one, but flight schedule of many flights in that time-frame.

A Mumbai-bound passenger accidently opened the emergency exit of an aircraft just as the flight was about to take-off from Chennai.

The incident occurred on Thursday night at 10.30 pm with 152 passengers onboard. Just as the pilot was about to take off from Chennai Domestic airport the pilot's attention was piqued as the emergency door alarm went off, triggering panic.

The pilot immediately halted the flight on the runway, while the security was called.

Investigation revealed that 45-year-old Varun Bharan from Mumbai accidently pressed the button to open the emergency door. Just before take-off, the cabin crew makes sure to alert everyone onboard about the safety instructions on the flight.

Besides this, special instructions are given to passengers seated at the emergency seat informing them of the correct way to open the exit in case of emergency like fire of water landing.

The pilot of the flight did not accept Bharan's explanation that he had accidently pressed the button to open the emergency door. Aviation security officials boarded the plane to question him, leading to the cancellation of his travel. He was whisked away and handed over to Chennai airport police.

A case has been registered against the passenger for violating the Aviation Safety Act.

Prior to take-off the cabin crew's instructions are very clear, if any passenger is found violating any safety instruction, jeopardizing the lives of fellow passengers and crew, the act is punishable by law.

Following this significant disruption, the flight finally took off for Mumbai at 12:30 AM, two hours later than its scheduled time.
