CBI summons Vijay again on Jan 19 in Karur stampede case, actor seeks Pongal relief

New Delhi: According to sources, the Central Bureau of Investigation has summoned actor Vijay once again as part of its ongoing probe into the Karur stampede incident. The agency has asked the actor to appear before investigators on January 19.
Sources added that Vijay has sought a postponement of the summons, citing the Pongal festival. It is not yet clear whether the agency will agree to defer the appearance date.
The Karur stampede case relates to a crowd incident that occurred during a public event, leading to multiple injuries and triggering widespread concern over crowd management and safety arrangements. The case was later handed over to the CBI for an independent and detailed investigation.
Investigators are examining the sequence of events, permissions granted for the gathering, crowd control measures and the role of organisers in the incident. Several individuals have already been questioned as part of the probe.
The CBI’s continued questioning indicates that the agency is intensifying its investigation to establish accountability and identify any lapses that may have led to the stampede. Further action will depend on the findings of the ongoing inquiry.
