Chirag Paswan meets Nitish Kumar, congratulates JD(U) on Bihar Assembly win

Patna: Bihar witnessed a decisive electoral verdict on Friday as the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secured a clear majority in the 243-member Assembly. The BJP emerged as the largest party with 89 seats, while its ally JD(U), led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, won 85 seats. The Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) contributed 19 seats to the NDA tally, helping the coalition reach a comfortable majority of 202 seats.

The opposition Mahagathbandhan, led by the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), faced a heavy defeat, winning only 70 seats, while the Congress managed six. High-profile losses included Tej Pratap Yadav, who was defeated in the Mahua constituency. Newly formed parties like Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party failed to make any electoral gains, highlighting the limited impact of new entrants in the state.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the outcome as a mandate for pro-people governance and pledged to extend the BJP’s victory march to West Bengal, promising to end what he termed ‘jungle raj’. Union ministers and regional leaders across India praised the NDA’s decisive performance, pointing to strong support among women and youth as a key factor.

The election results were announced after meticulous counting across all constituencies, despite allegations from some opposition quarters regarding voter deletions during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) drive. The Election Commission of India maintained that the process was transparent and fair.

The sweeping verdict reinforces the NDA’s dominance in Bihar and provides the alliance with an opportunity to advance its development agenda. It also sets the stage for upcoming state elections, signalling the coalition’s continued political strength in the region.
