Pathanamthitta: From the very moment he took his first breath, little Nikith was battling for life. Born into the world only to be abandoned in a bucket inside a bathroom, his story could have ended there — but fate had other plans. Swift action by the police saved him, and today, Nikith has found a new beginning. He is flying to Italy with his loving adoptive parents.

Despite facing intellectual challenges, the tiny fighter was given the name Nikith, meaning "one with divine knowledge" — a name that speaks of hope and destiny.

While many turned away, an Italian couple opened their hearts and arms, welcoming him as a precious gift from God.

Nikith’s journey began on a tragic note. On April 4, 2023, he was found abandoned at a house in Aranmula, mere hours after his birth. His young mother, suffering from severe bleeding, had sought urgent medical help at the Chengannur hospital. It was during enquiries that officials learned of the baby left behind — alone and helpless.

Rushing to the scene, the police rescued the fragile newborn and brought him to hospital. Weighing just 1.3 kilograms, Nikith battled through critical days at Kottayam Medical College Hospital. Against all odds, he survived — and continued to grow stronger at a child care centre.

It was here that hope knocked again. An Italian couple, already parents to one child, had dreamt of expanding their family through adoption. They applied through the Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA), completed all procedures, and travelled to the Omallur child care centre in February to meet their son — Nikith.

The biological mother had earlier signed consent, unable to provide him the care he needed. Today, officials like Pathanamthitta Child Welfare Committee chairperson Adv N Rajeev share in the joy that Nikith has finally found a loving home and a brighter future.

M C Abhilash, then Chengannur SI who once carried the newborn to safety in his arms — now a CI at Venmani — said he feels deep happiness knowing that the child he once rescued now has a second chance at life.
