Sarath Thenumoola, famous for his role in the Malayalam movie Operation Java, praised the Kochi Metro’s new initiative to support people with albinism. His comments came shortly after the Ayanika Society, which he is part of, in collaboration with the Metro, launched India's first albinism-friendly journey.

According to Thenumoola, initiating this pioneering project required considerable mental and social preparation. "It was the first time friends with albinism were meeting each other, and their parents were also meeting for the first time. The biggest challenge was dealing with the unpredictable weather. By providing facilities in the air-conditioned lounge, the Metro addressed this major issue," he explained.

"The awareness that even a small mistake could disrupt the journey towards larger goals was crucial in ensuring the success of the initiative’s launch," he said.

"Now, it is up to the public to promote this initiative. We are confident it will be well-received," he said.

Why a campaign?

Albinism, a genetic condition marked by a lack of pigment in the skin, hair, and eyes, is often misunderstood. Increasing the visibility of individuals with albinism in everyday settings, such as on public transport like the Metro, can help normalise their presence. This visibility challenges stereotypes and fosters a more accurate understanding of the condition.

New journey to challenge albinism misconceptions

The campaign launch ride commenced from the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium Metro Station. According to Metro officials, the initiative aims to create inclusive travel experiences that celebrate diversity and promote awareness. The Metro positions itself as a global pioneer in implementing such an initiative.

Ayanika's pursuit

The Ayanika Society aims to raise awareness about albinism in the community, foster a supportive atmosphere, and ensure the safety of individuals with albinism before the summer arrives.

'Operation Java'

Thenumoola is best known for his role as 'Michael Pascal' in the film Operation Java. Despite having only a few dialogues and limited screen time, his portrayal of the villain was memorable.
