Lovers turn on each other as Pune fort murder investigation takes dramatic twist

The investigation into the death of Ketan Agarwal has taken a fresh turn after the two main suspects, Siya Goyal and Chetan Babulal Chaudhary, began accusing each other of masterminding the alleged murder.
The pair, who have been charged with murder and criminal conspiracy, were reportedly planning to elope and marry. However, police sources claim Siya later backed out over concerns about her family's social standing. Investigators allege the couple then discussed several ways to end her engagement to Ketan before deciding to kill him.
During questioning, Chetan told police that he only intended to run away with Siya and claimed she had insisted on murdering Ketan. Siya has denied this, instead alleging that the killing was Chetan's idea. She also claimed he broke down in tears after an earlier attempt on Ketan's life failed on 14 June.
Police believe the conflicting statements may be an attempt by both suspects to avoid full responsibility for the alleged conspiracy. They remain in custody until 29 June.
Alleged Murder Plot at Lohagad Fort
Police allege that, on the morning of 18 June, Siya met Chetan at a café in Pune to finalise plans for the killing. CCTV footage reportedly shows the pair together before Siya set off with Ketan for a trek to Lohagad Fort, while Chetan travelled separately.
Investigators claim the couple discussed possible methods of carrying out the attack and selected locations on the fort from which Ketan could be pushed. Later that day, police allege Siya and Chetan pushed the 26-year-old into a gorge from behind, killing him. Siya then informed Ketan's family that he had slipped during the trek.
Ketan, who was a director and chief marketing officer at his family's real estate firm, Success Group, initially appeared to have died in a trekking accident.
Earlier Attempts Under Investigation
Police also allege that Siya made repeated efforts to persuade Ketan to visit Lohagad Fort in the weeks leading up to his death.
The couple visited the fort on 31 May, while another planned trip on 4 June did not take place after Ketan's mother refused permission. Investigators claim that during a subsequent visit on 14 June, Siya allegedly tried to push Ketan from a cliff. Police say he managed to save himself by grabbing a bush.
According to investigators, when Ketan questioned her about the incident, Siya claimed she had seen a snake and was trying to protect him.
