Fake doctor runs clinic under real doctor's name in Pathanamthitta | Watch

Pathanamthitta: A serious case of medical malpractice has emerged at an establishment marked as AMR Hospital in Kaipattoor in Pathanamthitta, where a fake doctor has been treating patients. The establishment, located on Adoor Road, displays a sign for Dr. Chandra Sekharan, who has reportedly left the facility. In his absence, assistant Nabeesa has taken over treatment responsibilities.
Recently, a patient arrived at the hospital complaining of pain, where Nabeesa suggested an injection to alleviate the discomfort. However, the patient, suspicious of the suggestion, declined the injection and requested medication instead. Nabeesa provided three types of medicines, including unlabelled white tablets. She explained, “This is the calcium tablet, it will relieve all your pain. Don’t you have a disc issue and knee wear and tear?.”
In addition to administering treatments, Nabeesa charged a consultation fee of Rs 250. When questioned about the availability of another doctor, she confirmed there was one but responded with a counter-question regarding whether the patient wished to see them.
The medications given by Nabeesa were later evaluated at a general hospital, where Doctor Sharath Thomas Roy identified one pill as a painkiller and another as a gas relief tablet. Due to the lack of packaging, he could not identify the third pill. Dr. Roy emphasized, “Patients have the right to know what medication they are taking, and providing unlabelled pills without clarification is illegal.”
Panchayat officials have confirmed that the hospital operates without a valid license, citing lack of proper documentation as the reason for the denial of license. The facility has previously faced closure due to similar allegations but has since reopened. Many patients opt this hospital due to cheap treatment costs. The health department and police now face scrutiny over their inaction regarding this long-standing issue.
