Across the town, painted watermelons and other fruits have been creatively displayed with the polling date inscribed on them, serving as vivid reminders for residents to cast their votes. The initiative aims to capture attention in public spaces and reinforce the importance of electoral participation in a simple, relatable way.
Adding to the campaign’s appeal is a striking 32-kilogram installation of a slender loris, a small nocturnal primate native to southern India. Crafted entirely from fruits and vegetables, the figure is dressed in a traditional veshti and shirt and has been named “DINDU”, serving as the official election mascot for the district.
The installation has quickly become the highlight of the awareness drive, drawing crowds and sparking conversations about the upcoming polls. Officials hope that such innovative methods will resonate with voters of all ages and boost turnout.
Tamil Nadu will go to the polls in a single phase on April 23, with the counting of votes scheduled for May 4.
