Ahmedabad traffic police try cooling jackets to tackle summer heat

As summer intensifies, the Ahmedabad Traffic Police have taken a significant step to improve on-duty conditions by introducing high-tech cooling jackets to help personnel cope with extreme heat.

The jackets are equipped with battery-powered fans that provide continuous airflow, offering much-needed relief to personnel managing traffic at busy intersections under harsh weather conditions.

"In collaboration with Mahila Housing Trust, we have developed a jacket design. We have created two types of jackets: a half-sleeve jacket and a full-sleeve jacket.

These jackets are equipped with battery-operated cooling fans that can run at three different speeds. The battery has a capacity of 10000 mAh, which allows the fans to operate comfortably for about 4 to 6 hours. Due to the cooling fans, the wearer will feel a temperature that is 6 to 7 degrees lower than the outside temperature. This will help reduce the impact of heatwaves on people who wear these jackets," said Chirag Patel, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic Administration

Traffic police personnel say the jackets are proving highly effective, helping lower body temperature and ease heat stress.

The initiative is currently in its trial phase, with the jackets being tested at multiple traffic points across the city. Authorities are gathering feedback to refine the design ahead of a wider rollout.
