‘My own son is asking me...’: Why Nani says ‘The Paradise’ may not be for kids

Telugu star Nani’s son is apparently quite eager to watch his father’s upcoming film ‘The Paradise’. There is just one problem: the actor does not think he is ready for it yet.

During a media interaction in Chennai ahead of the release of director Srikanth Odela’s ‘The Paradise’, Nani was asked about the film’s certification and whether its intense violence could affect its appeal among family audiences. The film has since received an ‘A’ certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification, restricting its theatrical viewing to adult audiences.

Speaking about the possibility of losing out on children and family audiences, Nani said that not every film can cater to everyone.

“In the first place, we still haven't got our censor certificate. So, we don't know if it's going to be 'A'. But I have a gut feeling that it's going to be A,” he said during the interaction.

Nani acknowledged that an adult-only certification could mean the film misses out on younger viewers and families, but said that this was part of exploring different genres as an actor.

“Yes, we will be losing out on the kids and the family audiences. But every genre can't really cater to everyone. And now there will be family films coming up. There will be such films coming up from me itself very soon. But as an actor, I think I will have to explore all kinds of genres,” he said.

The actor also explained that the intensity of ‘The Paradise’ required a certain kind of treatment.

“And this kind of intensity, this kind of performance, this kind of a genre is only possible to do in a certain way. And we have done that,” Nani added.

Nani’s son wants to watch ‘The Paradise’

Nani then revealed that his young son has already been asking if he can watch the film. However, the actor has decided that he will have to wait.

“Definitely, for example, my own son is asking me if he can watch Paradise. And I said, 'Not when it releases, but soon when I think you are ready for it',” Nani said.

While describing the film as a mainstream action entertainer, Nani pointed out that its violence may not necessarily be unfamiliar to audiences, but the intensity is considerably higher.

“This is a very mainstream film. And the extent of violence in this film, you would have seen in other mainstream films. But the intensity is much more stronger in this one,” he said.

For adult audiences, however, Nani believes the film will offer the kind of theatrical experience they are looking for.

“So, for all the grown-ups, it's going to be extremely enjoyable. They will really enjoy this kind of an experience. For the kids, they have to wait for some time,” he added.

Directed by Srikanth Odela, ‘The Paradise’ stars Nani in the lead and is scheduled to release in theatres on September 24. The film reunites Nani with Odela after their earlier collaboration ‘Dasara’.
