Nineties kids, rejoice! Shaktimaan Malayalam is back; now streaming on YouTube

The beloved Malayalam version of the Shaktimaan serial is back, captivating audiences after 19 years. The first episode, recently released on YouTube, has garnered around three lakh views. The show is available on the YouTube channel called ‘Ultra Malayalam,’ which had previously released the Hindi version which gained much popularity.

The Malayalam version follows this. Fans of the original series, which aired on Doordarshan from 1997 to 2005, are excited to see their childhood hero return, dubbed in Malayalam.  The plot follows the journey of Shaktimaan, a superhero who fights against evil while promoting values like courage and justice. New episodes will be released every five days.

Shaktimaan was the favourite superhero of Indian kids in the 90s. Comments on the YouTube videos are filled with nostalgia, with many viewers reminiscing about watching Shaktiman as kids. One commenter wrote, "To all the 2K kids (2000s kids), come and see our superhero," while another commented “90s kids, hit the like button.” Other comments include, “This is our universe,” “Uff! Goosebumps, nostalgia!” among others. Another user shared memories of adjusting the TV antenna to get a clear signal.

By launching the Malayalam version before other regional counterparts like Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada, the creators recognised the strong demand in the Malayalam market. The original series, produced by Mukesh Khanna, first aired on September 13, 1997. For those eager to relive the magic, the episodes are available on YouTube under the search words ‘Shaktimaan Malayalam.’
