‘I know kalari too!’ Priyanka Chopra shares Kerala connection with Prithviraj

Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra recently dropped a fun surprise about her Kerala roots during a chat with Prithviraj Sukumaran and Mahesh Babu. While the conversation started with action training for the film Varanasi, Priyanka revealed that she too knows Kalaripayattu, the traditional martial art from her grandmother’s hometown in Kottayam, delighting her co-stars and fans alike.
During a recent interview on Screen Rant Plus, Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra revealed her Kottayam roots. While Mahesh Babu and Prithviraj discussed Kalaripayattu, Chopra said, “I know kalari too, okay? It is also the art of my land; my grandmother is from Kottayam!” Her co-stars were pleasantly surprised by the revelation.
Mahesh Babu spoke about his six months of rigorous training to perfect his running and action sequences for the film ‘Varanasi’ director Raja Mouli. He explained that practicing Kalaripayattu improved his body flexibility and posture, while the director also asked him to change his running style for authenticity.
Mahesh added that the director shared pictures of European sculptures to help him understand poses for action sequences. He displayed these images around his study and saved them on his phone for reference.
Food talk brings fun to the chat
When asked about his favourite Indian food, Mahesh quickly said, “Hyderabadi chicken biryani is my life.” Priyanka agreed on biryani but added that her favourite is chaat, highlighting her love for street food. Prithviraj shared a different perspective, noting that Indian food varies widely across regions. He fondly recalled seafood and rice-fish curry from his coastal hometown in Kerala as his favourite dishes.
Fans are eagerly awaiting the release of ‘Varanasi’, which is scheduled for April 7, 2027. The film features Mahesh Babu, Prithviraj Sukumaran, and Priyanka Chopra in key roles, and has already generated excitement among audiences in India.
