For KL Rahul, 'Spider-Man' is more than just a superhero from his childhood. Now, as a father, the Indian cricketer hopes to share that bond with his daughter one day.

Ahead of the release of 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day', Rahul has joined the superhero's world in a special video that plays with the idea of being forgotten by everyone around you. The campaign puts the cricketer in a Peter Parker-style situation, but the story behind his association with Spider-Man is far more personal.

Rahul grew up watching and admiring Spider-Man, a character he says stayed with him through different phases of his life. For him, the superhero's appeal has always extended beyond the action and adventure.

“Like millions of Indians, I grew up watching and admiring Spider-Man. I enjoyed watching his films not only because of action and adventure, but because of what he stands for. ‘With great power comes great responsibility’ is a belief that has stayed with me through different phases of my life and is something I try to live by every day,” Rahul said.

His relationship with the character has now taken on a new meaning. Rahul said that becoming a father has made the association even more special, as he looks forward to introducing his daughter to the superhero he grew up watching.

“When Sony Pictures Entertainment India approached me to collaborate on ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’, it was an easy decision. It’s exciting to be associated with a character who has inspired generations across the world. Now, as a father, it feels even more special. I look forward to the day my daughter is old enough for us to watch a Spider-Man film together,” he said.

For Rahul, that future father-daughter movie date would also be a way of passing on a piece of his own childhood.

“It’ll be wonderful to introduce her to a superhero who meant so much to my childhood and hopefully pass on that legacy to the next generation,” he added.

The collab arrives as ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ gears up for its India release on July 30. The Tom Holland-starrer will release in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.
