HBO has officially ignited the marketing campaign for the third season of its hit fantasy drama House of the Dragon, releasing a high-octane teaser trailer that confirms the series is heading toward the bloodiest naval engagement in Westerosi history.

The footage, released Wednesday, provides the first look at the Battle of the Gullet, a pivotal conflict from George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood. The teaser signals a significant shift in pacing for the series, which serves as a prequel to Game of Thrones.

The battle of the gullet

While the Season 2 finale saw the Velaryon fleet and the Triarchy moving into position, the new footage confirms the scale of the upcoming clash. Key sequences include:

  • Aerial Warfare: Jacaerys Velaryon (Harry Collett) on Vermax and Baela Targaryen (Bethany Antonia) on Moondancer are seen raining fire upon the Triarchy’s ships.
  • Naval Carnage: The teaser emphasises the brutality of the "Gullet," showcasing massive ship-to-ship boarding actions and the destruction of the Velaryon blockade.

Political turmoil at court

The trailer pivots from the high seas to the tension in King’s Landing. Despite the Season 2 finale’s clandestine meeting between Rhaenyra and Alicent Hightower, the transition of power appears stalled.

  • Prince Regent Aemond: Aemond Targaryen (Ewan Mitchell) is shown commanding the Iron Throne with increased ferocity, seemingly disregarding any secret peace pacts.
  • The Hightower Advance: The teaser offers a first look at James Norton as Lord Ormund Hightower, leading the "Green" forces in the Reach alongside the first sighting of Prince Daeron’s dragon, Tessarion.

Production and logistics

HBO confirmed that Season 3 will consist of eight episodes and is scheduled to debut in June 2026. This season marks the penultimate chapter of the "Dance of the Dragons" civil war, with showrunner Ryan Condal previously confirming the series will conclude with Season 4.

The teaser arrives as HBO’s other spin-off, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, prepares for its first season finale this Sunday, February 22.
